Cursillo de Cursillos
Summary
The founder, Eduardo BonnĂn developed a Cursillo de Cursillos - beyond Cursillo - to give Cursillistas a deeper understanding of the foundational charism; mentality, essence, purpose, strategy, and methodology of the Cursillo Movement. The first United States English Speaking Cursillo De Cursillos was presented in October 2009 in the Archdiocese of Miami. Since then, Cursillo de Cursillos have been held in the Diocese of Ft. Worth, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Archdiocese of Seattle, Diocese of Bridgeport, and the Diocese of Rapid City. Other Cursillo de Cursillos are planned for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and the Diocese of San Diego.

This inspiring three-day workshop has a more relaxed atmosphere than the Cursillo Weekend
with plenty of time for sharing and asking questions and reflection from Thursday evening through Sunday evening. A team from Regional and National presents living, personal experiences during rollos and meditations based on the Cursillo book entitled Structure of Ideas to help encourage on-going conversion through encounters with oneself, Christ, and others.

There are five meditations presented during the Cursillo de Cursillos: Who Am I, Do I Know Myself; Who Is Christ, Do I Know Him; In What Disposition Does Christ See Me Now; Christ the Leader, and How Does Christ Want Me From Now On. The rollos presented include: The Preliminary Rollo, Mentality, Essence and Purpose, Strategy, Living and Sharing What Is Fundamental to being a Christian, Dangers and Deviations, The Cursillo Movement in the Pastoral Ministry of the Church, Precursillo, Cursillo Weekend, The Group and Its Reunion, The Ultreya and Its Sessions, School of Leaders, Secretariat, The Priest in the Cursillo Movement, and the Functions of the Lay Cursillo Leader.

Participants find ways to support each other for an effective movement in the diocese by personally learning the ‘why’ we do what we do in Cursillo and it provides the means for Cursillistas to form and maintain Friendship Groups, conduct an efficient School of Leaders, organize effective Ultreyas, collaboration between the Secretariat and School of Leaders, conduct authentic 3-Day Weekends, and implement an authentic Precursillo, Cursillo, and Post-Cursillo based on the love of God and neighbor and built on the spirit of friendship which is the best means to communicate God’s love with one another.

For more information, read the article listed on the National Cursillo web site School of Leaders
page called Cursillo de Cursillos–What is it? Cursillistas are also encouraged to read the February 19, 2008 address by Pope John Paul II encouraging Movements to rediscover their charism.

School of Leaders

Greetings to all my Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The trip to Buffalo for the Region III Conference was Spirit-filled, joyful, and very informative.  I'd like to share with you a quote from the School of Leaders rollo.

"One of the quickest ways to render the Cursillo Movement ineffective is to convince ourselves that Group Reunion and School of Leaders is unnecessary or optional.  Too soon we forget the charism of friendship that was forged in our small group reunions on our weekend."

Let's try to keep our enthusiasm and love for Cursillo alive.

Calendar Change - November 30, 2011

The family mass originally shown on November 30, 2011, has been changed to December 12, 2011.  The school of Leaders will meet on November 30, 2011.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Sponsor's Workshop

Twenty people attended the Pittsburgh Cursillo Sponsor’s workshop held on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Mt. Nazareth Center.  The workshop was presented to regain the true focus and meaning of our “commitment to infuse our environment with authentic Christianity”.  Lately, our focus has been narrowed to “just willing participants to attend a weekend so our numbers can grow, so good people can have an enjoyable spiritual retreat, and we can continue to exist as a movement”.

The workshop emphasized a re-examination and understanding of why we sponsor candidates, and the guidelines and mandates that oversee the Pre-Cursillo phase so that they are understood and more readily accepted by the community at large without controversy to invigorate our movement by presenting an authentic, productive weekend.

Andrea Zientara, Pre-Cursillo Chairperson, was the moderator.  Fr. Tom Galvin, Patty Joyce, and Mary K. Fleckenstein assisted with the presentation, and discussed the following issues of sponsorship:

1.       Personal contact – know your candidate one on one.  No wide net casting.

2.       The fallibility of multiple sponsorships for a single weekend.

3.       Sponsor’s responsibility before, during, and especially after a weekend.

4.       Who should go, who can go, and who should not attend.

5.       Respect for the application process and the document itself…why certain questions are there, the purpose they serve, and why proper signatures are necessary.

6.       Make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ…and MAYBE to Cursillo.  What Cursillo is NOT.

7.       Approaching married couples about making a weekend…positive and negative outcomes.
8.        Authentic Palanca and responsibilities by each individual Ultreya.

There is consideration for a presenting the Sponsor's Workshop again in the spring.  It will be posted on the calendar and also on the blog whenever plans are finalized.

On-going conversion

“The key to the effectiveness of the Cursillo Movement is precisely this: it promotes a constantly renewed conversion of Christians who have a natural influence on their environments and who unite with one another in core communities, living in intimate union with Christ and with one another. In this way they live the mystery of the Church’s communion with the Father, and, moved by the Spirit, they build up the Church and carry out Christ’s mission of service to the world, fully committed to the work of liberation” (FI # 690).

Tomorrow, 8.24.2011 we will be studying "Fundamental Ideas" in the School of Leaders.
